Google has introduced new File Transfer feature in iGoogle and Orkut chat. Well, obviously Google's first pure social network Orkut isn't dead yet. Sharing files has been the basic feature in chat messengers since ages but it is only now that Google introduces File Transfer through Chat in Orkut and iGoogle, AJAX-based customizable start page service. However, the premise here is that the recipient must be on Orkut, iGoogle or use file transfer supporting chat client.
From now on, you can share files like photos, audio, video, documents, etc. using 'Send a File' option in the 'Actions' menu while chatting on Orkut and iGoogle. There is no need to install any additional software or any other fuss. Apart from that, users can also start video chat with their Orkut buddies by clicking on the blue camera icon and obviously webcam would be required. Also, you're required to download video chat enabling application from www.google.com/chat/video.
If you don't have a webcam, you can certainly go for voice chat by click on the phone icon. Of course, the voice and video chat are much fun together. Hit the group chat icon to invite and chat with more than one friend at the same time.Do you think Chat in Gmail is being left out? Don't worry as Google promises to bring File Transfer and other Chat options for Gmail Chat as well.
